Irish pilgrims are in for a treat this April. Two a cappella performances of Joby Talbot’s Path of Miracles will take place in the upcoming weeks: the first in Limerick on Monday, April 6th, and the second in Dublin on Saturday, April 18th.

Created in 2005, Path of Miracles is an hour-long choral interpretation of the Camino de Santiago, commissioned by the UK vocal ensemble Tenebrae, in which the singers recount the miracles of St. James and explore the emotions of pilgrims moving through different stages of the Camino. The piece comprises four movements, each named for a city along the Camino Francés: Roncesvalles, Burgos, León, and Santiago. This year, Talbot’s work will be performed by Caminantes, a choir of Irish singers assembled specifically for this piece.

An interview with Talbot, featuring lengthy selections from the 2007 US performance of Path of Miracles by Judith Clurman and the Talbot Project, was episode #2747 of New Sounds and can be streamed on WNYC’s website. The album of the full performance is available for purchase from Signum Records or for streaming on Spotify. Still, there is no substitute for hearing it in person, and tickets can be purchased here for Limerick, and here for Dublin.

British composer Joby Talbot studied privately with Brian Elias, and trained at Royal Holloway, Bedford New College, and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He composes in a range of styles for concerts, the stage, and screen performances. Explore Talbot’s diverse projects at his website.
